Common Name The Abreviated Anacheilium [refers to the short inflorescence]

Flower Size .9" [2.25 cm]

Found from Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Chiriqui province of Panama, Choco' department of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in tropical forests as a small sized, cool growing, creeping, cockleshell epiphyte occuring at 1000 to 1400 meters in elevation in wet tropical evergreen forests with fusiform, lightly compressed pseudobulbs carrying 2 ligulate, obliquely emarginate, coriaceous leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on a 3/4" [1.5 cm]long, apical, 2 to 4 flowered inflorescence with the non-resupinate flowers held close to the apex of a mature pseudobulb.

Recognized by the creeping rhizome, the very short inflorescence, the small flowers and a nearly flat lip This species is similar to A calamarium but differs in being larger in both plant and flower size.
