Common Name Hartweg's Prosthechea [German Orchid Collector in Mexico 1800's]
Flower Size .68" [1.7 cm]
is found from Venezuela, Magdalena, Antioquia, Santander, Boyaca, Cundinamarca, Putumayo Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in very wet montane forests on moss covered trees at elevations of 1300 to 3100 meters often in full sun as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing, epiphyte with clustered, compressed, conical to ellipsoid pseudobulbs carrying a single [mostly], linear-elliptic, acute leaf and blooms in the spring on an apical, 5 1/2" [14 cm] long, erect, few to several flowered, racemose inflorescence triangular-ovate, to deltoid, acute, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts and arising on a newly matured pseudobulb carrying fleshy, non-resupinate flowers.
Similar to Prosthechea lindenii but differs in the sulcate, puberulent callus on the lip disc versus has a tomentose lip disc in the center with an elliptic, furfuraceous callus near the base.
The first 2 photos are what Eric Christenson has found to be exactly like the type specimen, the third is what we all have thought E hartwegi was.
