Found in Minas Gerais state of Brazil on "inselbergs" [low isolated mountains in a loose range] at elevations around 600 meters as a miniature sized, warm growing, lithophyte with a short rhizome giving rise to fusiform-elongate, laterally flattened pseudobulbs enveloped basally by evanescent sheaths and carrying 2subcoriaceous, green, oblong-lanceolate leaves that blooms in the fall on a terminal, arising through a conduplicate spathe, erect, 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long, simultaneously few to several flowered inflorescence with inconspicuous, much shorter than the pedicel floral bracts and carrying non-resupinate flowers.
Similar to Prosthechea regentii but difers in the rupicolous habit, the inflorescence that is longer than the leaves, the longer peduncle, larger flowers, a deltoid, apiculate lip, lanceolate sepals the tepals purple spotted and a longer, differnt gymnostemium.
