Common Name The Venezuelan Anacheilium
Flower Size 1 1/4" [3.1 cm]
Found in Venezuela, Risaralda, Santander, Cundinamarca and Valle de Cauca departments of Colombia and Ecuador in wet montane forests at elevations around 450 meters as a small sized, hot growing epiphyte with a short, creeping rhizome giving rise to an oblong-ovoid, flattened, longitudinally ribbed pseudobulb carrying a single apical, erect, naarrowly elliptic-oblong, obtuse apically leaf that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, terminal, arising on a mature growth through a prominent spathe, 2" [5 cm] long, 5 to 7 flowered inflorescence with triangullar, acute, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts and carrying non resupinate flowers.
Distinguished by the unifoliate, ribbed pseudobulbs, the inflorescence produced from mature growths, the obvious spathe at the base of the inflorescence, the 5 to 7, greenish white flowers with red-brown stripes on the lip and the column with narrow wings on each side of the stigma and the knob like projections over tha anther.
