Common Name or Meaning Hirtz's Andinia [German Engineer, Orchid Enthusiast and Orchid Collector in Ecuador current]

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Azuay province of Ecuador at elevations around 2000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing, ascending epiphyte with slender, ascending ramicauls enveloped by 2, loose tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly obovate, obtuse, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on a loose, arising laterally from the ramicaul, to 4.4" [to 11 cm] long including the 2 to 2.4" [5 to 6 cm] long peduncle, successively 2 to 4 flowered inflorescence with an oblique, acute, much shorer than the pedicel floral bract.

" Close to P schizopogon but the sepals of A hirtzii are transluscent, silvery white, while the long-haired, shaggy, red beard of P schizopogon is reduced to minute, purple papillae on the inner halves of the lateral sepal that are connate to above the middle." Luer 2005

This species belongs in the genus Pleurothallis but as yet has not been described as such so I have it here
