Found in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zaire, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Natal South Africa in dry woodlands at elevations of 900 to 1100 meters as a large to giant sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an erect leafy stem carrying 7, ovate, acute to apiculate, not overlapping, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, faily lax, 3 to 30 flowered inflorescence with scarious bracts and spreading flowers
