Found in Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi and Zimbabwe in grasslands and open woodlands at elevations of 1500 to 1800 meters as a small to large sized, cool growing terrestrial with fleshy, tuberous, cylindrical, villous roots giving rise to an erect stem numerous, overlapping, in the middle of the stem, lanceolate to ovate, acuminate, densely pubescent leaves that blooms in the spring and summer on an erect, densely many flowered inflorescence with densely pubescent, leaf-like bracts and carrying cream colored to greenish brown flowers with a yellow lip
