Full shade LATE Summer EARLY Fall

Common Name The Moss-Like Leaf Bulbophyllum

Flower Size

Found in Madagascar in dry forests at unknown elevations as a mini-miniature sized epiphyte with lenticular pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, ovate-lanceolate leaf that blooms in the late summer and early fall on a basal, erect, .48" [1.2 cm] long, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence.

This species has been confused for years because Schlechter in the same year gave this name, B muscicola, to 2 separate orchids, one in New Guinea [now B subpatulum] in the section Macrouris and the other in Madagascar, a super mini-miniature orchid within the SECTION Pantoblepharon Schlechter 1925. To complicate matters Reichenbach had used the name B musicola to describe an orchid from the Himalayas in 1872, this orchid is now named cirrhopetalumrefractum.htm"> Bublophyllum refractum and it is in the section Tripudianthes. To fix this Schlechter's Madgascan orchid has been renamed B bryophilum by Herman's in 2007.
