Found in Papua New Guinea on trees in lower montane forests at elevations around 200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with a very short rhizome giving rise to thin, terete, angled, striate pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, fleshy-coriaceous, glabrous, linear-ligulate, apiculate, apically concave with a minute apicule leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect to suberect, obtusely compressed, .2" [.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence

The variety Cadetia potamophila var. kenejiae Schltr.1912 differs in the broader leaves and flowers with a longer pedicel.
