Common Name The Densely Flowered Calanthe - In China Mi Hua Xia Ji Lan

Found in northeastern India, Bhutan, Myanmar, China, Taiwan and Vietnam in broad leaved mixed forests and along streamsides and valleys at elevations of 1000 to 3000 meters as a medium to just large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with a wavy, fusiform, fibrous rhizome with roots widely spaced and giving rise to 2 to 3, plicate, prominently 5 veined below, narrowly elliptic to oblong-elliptic, acute to acuminate, narrowing into the grooved petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall arising from the apex of the rhizome, short, globose-corymbose to cylindric, 4 to 8.4" [10 to 21 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence enveloped by tubular, inflated, avate, acute sheaths and carrying cauducous, elliptic-lanceolate, acute floral bracts.
