Found in the Bonin Islands of Japan in forests as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with moderately thick, pubesent stems carrying plicate, spreading, elliptic-lanceolate, acuminate, narrowing below into the elongate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer on a terminal, soft, peduncle very finely pubescent, 6 to 20" [15 to 50 cm] long, rachis to 16" [409 cm] long, laxly 10 to15 flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, sheathing bracts and lanceolate acute, erect and spreading floral bracts.
