Found rarely in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina in damp meadows and pine flatwoods as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 2, slender, linear leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, terminal, to 12" [30 cm] long, simultaneously 5 to 15 flowered inflorescence with non-resupinate flowers
