Common Name Robertson's Calochilus - In Australia - The Purple Beard Orchid

Flower Size 1 1/4" [3 cm]

Found in New Zealand, Western Australia and Victoria State Australia in subalpine to lowland open areas near Eucalyptus in woodland, open forest and heathland as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial occuring at elevations of sea level to 800 meters with a robust stem with a rather long, loose, lanceolate bract about in the middle and carrying narrow linear-lanceolate, channeled, rigid, fleshy leaf that is triangular in cross-section and fully developed that blooms in the later spring on a 18" [40 cm] long, loosely 3 to 5 flowered inflorescence.
