Found in New Caledonia in humid forests on schists and gneiss at elevations of 460 to 610 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with large, plicate, 5 nerved beneath, lanceolate, acuminate, clasping base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, terete, robust, 18 to 24" [45 to 60 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with tubular, deciduous, 1.2 to 1.4" [3 to 3.5 cm] long floral bracts that fall as the unscented, erect-spreading flowers open.
