Common Name The Chinese Calanthe - In China Zhong Hua Xia Ji Lan

Flower Size 1.2" [3.5 cm]

Found in southeastern Yunnan province of China in forests at elevations around 1050 to 1100 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with ovoid-conic pseudobulbs carrying 4, well developed and speading at blooming, not deciduous, elliptic, densely pubescent, acute apically, narrowing below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer on an, erect, terminal, densely puberulent, 13.6" [34 cm] long, laxy 10 flowered inflorescence with persistent, green, ovate-lanceolate, abaxially densely puberulent floral bracts

The species is described as differing from C mascua by the densely pubescent leaves, the suborbicular side lobes to the lip and a clavate spur.
