Common Name or Meaning Tsi's Calanthe [Honoring Zhan-huo Tsi, Chinese botanist who devoted his life to orchidology 2001]
Flower Size .8 to 1" [2 to 2,5 cm]
Found in Yunnan province of China in forests at elevations around 1560 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with ovate to conical pseudobulbs carrying 2, oblong to elliptic, incompletetly spreading and convolute at antithesis, contracted below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on an axillary, erect, 8.8" [22 cm] long, pubescent, rachis 3.2 to 4" [8 to 10 cm] long, laxly 4 to 11 flowered inflorescence with oblong-lanceolate, white, shorter than the ovary floral bracts
"In morphological comparisons, C. tsiana is similar to C. arisanensis, but it differs in having subspatulate petals and falcateobovate lateral lobes of lip with one ridge on the disk. The phylogenetic analyses based on nuclear ribosomal ITS and plastid DNA (rbcL, matK and trnL-trnF) place C. tsiana with C. arisanensis as sister species and support C. tsiana as a new species."
