Common Name Gomez's Catasetum [Venezuelan discoverer of the species]
Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]
Found in Amazonas state of Venezuela as a hot to warm growing epiphyte with ovoid, ridged pseudobulbs carrying 4 to 5, elliptic-obovate, petiolate, abruptly acuminate leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on a basal, lightly arcuate to pendent, racemose, to 7.2" [18 cm] long, to 9 flowered inflorescence carrying scented, resupinate flowers.
Similar to C ochraceum but differs in the epiphytic habit, pendulous inflorescence and labellumwith dentate to fimbriate margins. Also similar to C cristatum and C semicirculatum but the new species differs by the deeply concave labellum with a frontal "V"-shaped callus.
This is a very rare species and as such may prove to be a natural hybrid between C barbatum and C ochraceum as it is morphologically intermediate between the 2 species.
