Common Name Schmidt's Catasetum

This is a medium sized, hot growing, Brazilian epiphytic species found in gallery forest at elevations of 100 to 300 meters along the Sepotuba river in Mato Grosso state with clustered, fusiform pseudobulbs enveloped basally by deciduous leaf sheaths carrying 8 to 10, arched, oblanceolate, plicate leaves that blooms in the summer and fall on a basal, erect to pendant, 18" [45 cm] long, racemose, several flowered inflorescence.
This species grows best mounted in a basket.
C schmidtianum is similar to C saccatum but this one has a fleshier lip with warts and the margins do not recurve.
