Common Name or Meaning Portilla's Caucacea [Mario Portilla Co Owner of Ecuagenera current]
Flower Size .6 to .8" [1.5 to 2 cm]
Found in Azuay province of Ecuador in primary cloud forests at elevations around 3000 to 3200 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with green brown, ovoid, obtuse apex, shiny pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 2, dry, leafy sheaths and carrying a single, apical, leathery, lanceolate-acuminate, basally conduplicate, glabrous, brown-green leaf that blooms in the winter, summer and fall on an erect, basal, 4.8 to 6" [12 to 15 cm] long, with 2 nodes enveloped by small, lanceolate-acuminate at the apex, truncated basally bracts, simultaneously 3 to 5 flowreed inflorescence carrying resupinate, fragrant flowers,
"Similar to Caucaea radiata but differs in the slightly narrower, brownish lateral sepals versus wider, dark brown lateral sepals, the short apical division versus broader apical division, the trilobed lip with 2 broad lobes versus deflexed, linear lip, three narrow yellow ridges versus 3 much broader light yellow crests, the column with elongated basalyt wings versus short basal wings and the elongated ovary versus a shorter ovary.
