Found in Abancay and Urubamba Provinces of Peru in open shrublands in gravelly soils and rocky slopes at elevations around 2700 to 3000 meters as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a stout, terete stem enveloped completely by leaf-bearing sheaths acarrying numerous, ovate, elliptic-ovate to lanceolate-elliptic, amplexicaul below, basally closely clasping leaves that blooms on a terminal, erect, loose to rather dense, to 9" [21.5 cm] long, up to 19 flowered inflorescence.
