Found in the western Sichuan and central Yunnan provinces of China on grassy slopes or in mossy rocks along ravines at elevations of 1500 to 3500 meters as a mini-miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with oblong-ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, glabrous stem with 1 to 2, membraneous, basal sheaths and carrying a single, cordate, cordate-ovate to broadly ovate, dark green, spotted red purple above, purple red below, gradually narrowing into the amplexicaul base leaf that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect to slightly curved, 1.6 to 5.6" [4 to 14 cm] long overall, slender, glabrous, rachis .4 to 1.6" [1 to 3.5 cm] long, laxly 1 to 3 flowered inflorescence with broadly ovate, much shorter than the ovary, acuminate floral bracts and carrying flowers that are often secund.
