Found in eastern Himalayas, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Java and Sumatra in semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests and savanna-like woodlands at elevations of sealevel to 1420 meters as a strange summer flowering, bifoliate plant with conic pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, deciduous, lanceolate, acute, shortly petiolate leaves that blooms in summer on a basal, to 16" [to 40 cm] long, pendant, lax, up to 10, racemose carrying foul smelling flowers.

This species has deciduous leaves and loses them as it is ready to bloom and needs a slight lessening of water but should not be allowed to dry out completely. It also does not like direct sunlight.
