Found in Sumatra in lower, mossy, montane forests at elevations of 1250 to 1850 meters as a medium sized, cool growing epiphyte or terrestrial in humus on roadside embankments with close set, elongate pseudobulbs carrying 2, erect, oblong-lanceolate to obovate-oblong, acute-acuminate, plicate, 7 nerved, gradually narrowing below into the elongate, channeled petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect, 34" [to 85 cm] long, fractiflex rachis, many flowered inflorescence arising on a newly emerging growth with successively opening flowers
