Common Name The Fountain of Darkness Coelogyne [refers to the dark central pattern on the lip]

Found in Kalimantan Borneo in heath forests and typically starts growing on the tree trunk near the ground and spirals steeply up the trunk for 2-3 meters at elevations around 300 meters as a large sized, hot growing epiphyte with oblong to elliptic, adpressed to the rhizome, incurved margin pseudobulb carrying 2, apical, obovate, thin, green, plicate, 5 to 7 nerved, obtuse to acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the elongate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on an arching, 12" [30 cm] long, delicate rachis, 6 to 10 flowered inflorescence arising on a newly emerging growth with persistent floral bracts and has simultaneously opening, wide open, thick, waxy flowers.
