Common Name The Prolific Coelogyne [refers to the reblooming inflorescence recurring over several years] - In China Huang Lu Bei Mu Lan

Flower Size .4 to .88" [1 to 2.2 cm]

Found in northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan, northern Myanmar, Yunnan province of China, Thailand and Vietnam in hill, lower and upper montane forests on tree trunks and lower branches as a small to medium sized, cold to warm growing epiphyte at elevations of 900 to 2300 meters with 1.2 to 2" between each, ovoid to oblong, compressed pseudobulb carrying 2, apical, plicate, 7 nerved, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, gradually narrowing below into the grooved, elongate petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, slender, erect, to 12" [to 30 cm] long, fractiflex rachis, 3 to 10 flowered inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb and leaf with several, imbricate sheaths at the junction of the peduncle and rachis from which next years bloom cycle will appear with simultaneously opening flowers. This species blooms out of the previous years inflorescence as well as new ones hence the name C prolifera.
