Found in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand in montane forests in poor soil on roadbanks as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with a tubular, dark greenish red stem carrying a single, rush-like, basally clasping leaf that blooms in the summer through fall on an erect, racemose, close set, to 4.8" [12 cm] long, 5 to 25 flowered inflorescence and carrying non-resupinate flowers
