Common Name Cheeseman's Corybas [English Botanist 1800's] - In New Zealand, the Spurred Helmut Orchid

Flower Size .4 to .8" [1 to 2 cm]

Found in New Zealand in lowland nothofagus [beech] forests in leaf litter as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with a green leaf that blooms in the fall and early winter carrying a single, apical flower with the sepals just breaking through the ground cover so as to appear as if someone has strewn pearls on the forest floor.
