Found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania Australia at elevations of sea level to 450 meters in coastal areas in closed scrublands, open forests and heathy woodlands in rich humus, well drained sand or sandy loams in cold damp, sheltered areas as a miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with a single, cordate leaf that blooms in the winter on an erect, short, single flowered inflorescence
