Common Name The Smooth Stemmed Cranichis
Flower Size .24" [6 mm]
Found in Matto Grosso and Distrito Federal states of Brazil as a medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with 3 to 6, basal, coriaceous, shiny, reddish green above, paler beneath, obovate, undulate margin, acute, attenuate below into the pseudopetiolate base leaves that blooms in the late fall and early winter on a terminal, erect, peduncle 8 to 12" [20 to 30 cm] long, provided with 8 to 9 longly amplexicaul, lanceolate, acuminate, decreasing in size below sheathing bracts, rachis 2.8 to 3.6" [7 to 9 cm] long, more or less cylindrical, densely many flowered inflorescence with patent, lanceolate, acuminate, single nerved, as long as to shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white flowers with the inner oart of the lip speckled with intense green.
"Differs from Cranichis candida in being completely glabrous and has different flowers. Differs from the closer related Cranichis muscosa in the glabrous petals without marginal cilia and by its less distinctly pseudopetiolate base and smaller leaves." Hoehne 1945
