Common Name or Meaning The Hieroglyphic Cranichis [refers to the markings on the lip being like writing]

Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Hinduras and El Salvador at elevations around 1900 to 2400 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 2, ovate, acute, silvery green, dark veined leaves that blooms in the late summer on an erect, terminal, basally strongly pilose, with 2 sheaths, to 14" [35 cm] long, rachis to 2" [5 cm] long, cylindrical, almost glabrous, many flowered inflorescence.
