Found in Cundinamarca and Santander departments of Colombia and Loja province of Ecuador on roadsides at elevations around 2600 to 3000 meters as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 2,basal, oblong-elliptic to elliptic, acute, oblique, cuneate to subcordate below into the narrowly winged, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late fall, winter and spring on an erect, terminal, peduncle to 9.2 to 13" [23 to 32.5 cm] long, slender, provided with 4 to 7 sheathing bracts, glandular-pubescent above, rachis 1.6 to 3" [4 to 7.5 cm] long, cylindrical, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with glabrous, lanceolate, acuminate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying white flowers.
"Distinguished from all others in the group by having a single veined dorsal sepal and 3 veined lateral sepals. The petals are sparsely and unevenly pilose along the margins. It differs from Cranichis ciliata by the 3 veined lateral sepals versus 2 veined." Szlach. & Kolan. 2020
