Common Name The Long-Petiolate Cranichis [refers to the long petioles of the leaf]
Flower Size
Found in Valle de Cauca department of Colombia, Carchi province of Ecuador and Piura department of Peru in wet montane cloud forests at elevations of 2400 to 2500 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 3, basal, elliptical to oblong elliptic, dark green, oblique, acute, abruptly narrowing below into the cuneate, long petiolate leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, non-foliaceous, peduncle 12.4 to 13.8" [31 to 34.5 cm] long, glabrous below provided with a few spaced, glabrous bracts, 2.2 to 3.6" [5.5 to 9 cm] long, conical, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, glabrous, longer to shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying very small, white flowers with spreading segments.
Can be confused with Cranichis calva but it has petals with erose margins versus in C longipetiolata the petals are entire.
