Common Name or Meaning The Woods Loving Cranichis

Found in Boyaca, Cauca and Nariño departments of Colombia and Merida state of Venezuela on weedy roadsides at elevations of 1750 to 3300 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with 2 basal, ovate-lanceolate to elliptic, acute to shortly acuminate, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later fall on a terminal, erect, to 16" [40 cm] long peduncle, rachis to 3" [7.5 cm] long, rather laxly many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous floral bracts.

"This species can be confused with C. badia, but it has 2-veined lateral sepals. The plant is also similar to C. ciliata as well, from which it differs, however, by the narrowly elliptic, obtuse dorsal sepal (vs. dorsal sepal ovate, apiculate), narrower lateral sepals, lip cuneate at the base, and floral bracts subequal to the ovary (vs. floral bracts distinctly shorter than ovary)."
