Found near Mocoa in Putumayo department of Colombia, northwestern Ecuador and Peru in very wet tropical and montane cloud forests at elevations around 200 to 1380 meters as a mini-miniature sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with spirally arranged, 4 to 7, setaceous-linear, acute, conduplicate leaves that blooms at most any time of the year on an axillary, short to .4" [1 cm], suberect, single flowered inflorescence with an oval, apiculate floral bract.
Padre Ortiz's drawing above was determined as C hoppii, most references other than Schlechter [Schlechter verifies that it is not the species C peruvianum because of the varying forms of the 2 lips] gives that name as a synonym of C peruvianum subsp peruvianum and split out the varying lip forms to C peruvianum sbsps dactylinum [northwestern Ecuador] and sbsps minus [Peru].
