Found in Colombia and northern Ecuador at elevations around 1400 meters as a miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a monopodial, sometimes asally branching stem enveloped by numerous, imbricating, distichous leaf sheaths carrying narrowly linear, abruptly obtuse leaves that blooms in the late spring on numerous, lateral, basal, spreading, peduncle filiform,1 to 2 close, tubular bracted, 2.2" [5.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a large, inflated, floral bract and with a 3 winged ovary unique to the genus.
