Common Name The Meager Cyclopogon

Flower Size .16" [4 mm]

Found in Pichincha and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces of Ecuador at elevations around 1950 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with a basal rosette, light green on both sides, obliquely narrowly elliptic, acute, cuneate below into the slender, canaliculate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on a terminal, erect, peduncle 13.6 to 17.6" [34 to 44 cm] long, enveloped by 3 to 4 appressed, acuminate, decreasing in size upwards sheathing bracts, rachis 2.4" [6 cm] long, secund, densely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, twice as long as the ovary floral bracts.

Schlechter compared this species to Cyclopogon elatus but separated from it by the smaller flowers and the shape of the lip.

"Schlechter compared this species to Cyclopogon elatus - However, C macer differs in having smaller flowers and a distinct lip shape. C macer can be mistaken for Cyclopogon rimbachii but the lip isthmus margins are not thickened in the later. C macer can easily be separated from its Ecuadorian congeners Cyclopogon maldonadoanus and Cyclopogon tandapianus by having the lip auricles parallel to the the ligulate claw versus the basal auricles are widely sprread and the claw is broadly cuneate."
