Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua, Panama, Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and thew Windward Islands in montane cloud forests at elevations around 350 to 1500 meters as a small sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with a basal rosette of 3 to 4, ovate-ellipitc, somewhat wavy marginally, attenuate into the canaliculate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later winter and early spring on an erect, terminal, glabrous below, somewhat pubescent above, 15" [37.5 cm] long overall, rachis 2" [5 cm] long, to 20 flowered inflorescence enveloped by 5 to 6, elongate sheaths and has acuminate floral bracts
