Found in Parana, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina states of Brazil and Corrientes department of Argentina as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with 1 to 5, in a basal rosette, elliptic, ovate to broadly lanceolate, acute to subobtuse, dark green with light greyish green stripes, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on an erect, terminal, peduncle to 12.8" [32 cm] long, provided with acute, herbaceous, thin, semi-transparent, glabrous, lower longer, upper shorter than the internodes, delicate, upper glandular, denser towards the apex, rachis 1.6 to 5.6" [4 to 14 cm] long, lax, multilateral, 5 to 25 flowered inflorescence with lanceoalate, acute, 3 nerved, herbaceous, thin, reddish, ciliate at the base and along the margins, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, basally saccate, sessile flowers with the tepals with red margins and nerves, and the lip with 2 red spots.

"C odileanus is related to Cyclopogon polyaden but the flowers are twice as large in S odileanus the hypochile is longer than wide, the epichile is three times shorter than the hypochile and the lip is strongly thickened at the apex." Szlach 1995
