Found in Ecuador in wet tropical forests at elevations around 450 meters as a medium to large sized, hot growing epiphyte with elongate, swollen, 10 to 15 noded pseudobulbs enveloped completely by distichous, foliaceous leaf sheaths and carrying thin, plicate, prominently veined beneath, elliptic, acute to acuminate, deciduous leaves that blooms in the summer through fall on a male flowered, axillary, to 14" [to 35 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence and if female flowered, axillary, shorter, with 3 to 5 flowered inflorescence
