Found in southeastern Yunnan province of China in dense forests in humus rich areas at elevations around 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with a subterranean, yellowish-white, fleshy, often branched several noded, slightly papillate rhizome with several hairy roots giving rise in the late spring and early summer to an erect, arising from the apex of the rhizome, greenish tinged purplish red, 16 to 18" [40 to 45 cm] long, 3 to 10 flowered inflorescence with 4 to 5, pale yellow-green sheaths and pale yellow-green, narrowly triangular floral bracts
