Common Name The Anacamptis-Like Cynorkis
Flower Size .4" [1 cm]
Found in Nigeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gulf of Guinea Islands, Rwanda, Zaire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe in grasslands, moors, and in bogs, marshes, swamps and by streams in highland forests at elevations of 600 to 3350 meters as a small to just large sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial with a slender, glandular pubescent towards the apex, erect, stem carrying 2 to 6, basal, lanceolate, acute leaves and some smaller ones above that blooms at most any time of the year on an erect, terminal, 1 to 8" [2.5 to 20 cm] long, pubescent, many flowered inflorescence.
"The species exhibits a considerable range of variation in the number, size and shape of the leaves, in the general stature of the plant and in the number of flowers in the inflorescence. The floral characters are also somewhat variable, as might be expected in such a widely ranging species, but the general floral pattern is remarkably constant. The labellum is always quite entire, shortly ligulate in shape and about the same length as or often slightly longer than the spur. The papillose middle lobe of the rostellum is about the same height as the anther loculi but sometimes slightly overtops them ; rarely it is distinctly shorter." Summerhayes 1957
