Found in Reunion and north and central Madagascar in ericoid bushes at elevations of 1200 to 2600 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with small, irregular, elongated, villous tubers giving rise to a basally sheathed stem carrying just above, 2, lanceolate to oblanceolate, very acute, attenuate to a long petiolate base, flat against the soil leaves that blooms in the summer and fall on a terminal, erect, with 2 distinct, very distant bracts, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, loosely 3 to 10 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate-acute, much sdhorter thant he ovary floral bracts and carrying veryh small, sessile, very finely papillose externally, whiteto violet both maculate wioth deep violet flowers.
