Found from the Chinese Himalayas, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan, northern Pakistan and the western Himalayas at elevations of 2100 to 4000 meters in shady wet pine forests or open glades or under shrubs or among bamboo as a small to medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with a stout, increasingly pubescent and glandular from the base upwards stem provided with 3 to 4 basal tubular sheaths and carrying 2 to 5, distant, elliptic to broadly elliptic, acute to acuminate, glabrous leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, 1.6 to 6" [4 to 15 cm] long, 1 or rarely 2 flowered inflorescence with a foliaceous, elliptic to lanceolate, pubescent on the abaxial veins, acuminate, much longer than the ovary floral bract.
