Common Name The Yellow Cypripedium - In China Huang Hua Shao Lan
Flower Size 2 1/2 to 3 1/2" [6.25 to 8.75 cm]
Found in souther Gansu, western Hubei, Sichuan, southeastern Xizang and northwestern Yunnan provinces of China in open woodlands or under scrub in grassy to stony locations at higher elevations of 1850 to 3700 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, brown, pubescent stem provided with several basal sheaths and carrying 6 to 10, well spaced, ellipitic to ellipitc-lanceolate, pubescent and shortly ciliate on both sides, acute to acuminate apically leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on a solitary [rarely 2] flowered, slender stalked, 2 1/2 to 9" [6.25 to 22.5 cm] long, terminal inflorescence with foliaceous, ellipitc-lanceolate, much longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying color variable flowers.
