Common Name The Freckled Cypripedium - In China Chang Ban Shao Lan

Found in southeastern Yunnan province of China on steep rocky limestone boulders in thickets or in open forests at elevations of 2100 to 2200 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial or lithophyte with a stout, creeping rhizome giving rise to an erect stem enveloped by 2 tubular sheaths and carrying a subopposite, dark green, heavily spotted with black, sometimes with a purple margin, ovate, obovate to suborbicular leaf that blooms in the spring on a terminal, single flowered inflorescence
