Found in Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea and the Gulf of Guinea Islands in submontane evergreen moist forests at elevations of 550 to 1200 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte that blooms in the late spring

Similar to C brownii and C guillaumettii but C submontanum has thiner leaves, fewer flowers and a less curved and shorter inflorescence
