Found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru in high, wet montane cloud forests in dense vegetation in thin soil at elevations of 1500 to 3500 meters as a giant sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial or lithophyte with a woody rhizome with 8" [20 cm] between each, smooth, somewhat laterally compressed, ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped partially basally by several, leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying oblanceolate to linear-oblanceolate, light to medium green, shallowly grooved above and slightly keeled below leaves that blooms in the summer on an axillary, to 98" [to 250 cm], paniculate, shortly many branched rarely rebranching, each branch to 8 flowerd, many flowered inflorescence arising on a newly maturing pseudobulb.
