A European, small to medium sized, cool to cold growing, terrestrial orchid that blooms in the later spring on a erect, terminal, 1 to 6" [2.5 to 15 cm] long, densly many flowered raceme with leaflike bracts occuring in the mid spring through early summer. This species is cited as being a synonym of Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. incarnata.
