Fragrance

Common Name Dewindt's Dendrochilum [Ranee of Sarawak Lili Alice de Windt 1900's]

Flower Size .33 to .4" [.8 to 1 cm]

Found in Sumatra and northern and northwestern Borneo in lower to upper montane forests and scrub at elevations of 1400 to 3000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with close set, ovoid-oblong to globose-ovoid, smooth becoming wrinkled, yellowish to red pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, linear to oblong to oblong-elliptic, apex often conduplicate, obtuse and mucronate to acute, cuneate below into the rigid, sulcate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring and fall on an erect to gently curving, arising with a new growth, often rather stout, quadrangular, 5.2 to 14.8" [13 to 37 cm] long, laxly to subdensely 10 to many flowered inflorescence without or with, 1 to 2, ovate, acuminate bracts and oblong-ovate to ovate-elliptic, obtuse to acuminate floral bracts and carrying strongly scented flowers.

J J Smith stated that this species is close to D longifolium but D dewindtianum differs in the shorter pseudobulbs, the densely dotted blackish sheaths and the hairy inflorescence and the shorter side lobes of the lip.
