Found in Sumatra and western Java at elevations around 1300 to 2000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to close set, almost terete but slightly broader in the middle pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, linear, obtuse, apiculate, petiolate base leaf that blooms on a slender peduncle, to 3.6" [9 cm] long, arising on an immature pseudobulb, rachis 2.8" [7 cm] long, to 20 flowered inflorescence.
CAUTION This species is very close to D kingii but this one with smaller flowers but if they turn out to be the same then D kingii takes precedence.
